Fast-Deploy Temporary Bridge Installed in Little Over 1 Hour Saves More than 6 Months in Permitting Time and Project Delays
To build a new substation in rural Ashville, Ohio, the contractor needed to traverse a 35’ wide stream. Environmental restrictions would not allow the native bank or waterway to be disturbed and building a culvert would have required a 6-month long design and permitting process. Mustang temporary bridges are an ideal option, as they minimize the need for extensive on-site preparation, stream permitting, and earthwork.
Mustang partnered with the civil contractor onsite for signoff on a concrete abutment plan. The entire team coordinated with Mustang’s bridge plan, “live load” bridge reaction calculations, and field best-practices.
The Mustang Extreme 45’ Hybrid Temporary Bridge delivered prior to the July 4th holiday, immediately after concrete abutments set. The team arrived on site at 9:15 am in rainy conditions and using a 110-ton crane, offloaded the bridge sections from the flatbed truck, rotated around and set them directly on the abutments. By 10:15 the team of 1 crane operator, 1 crane spotter, and 3 ground crew had guided the bridge into place and aligned the center bolt panels. As soon as the ramps are set in place, the bridge is ready to safely transport people and equipment to the jobsite.
