Mustang Hybrid Bridge Solves Issues with Permitting Hold Ups
Customers needing to cross stream and channels to reach a job site often call Mustang because they cannot interfere with current stream flow, dig or adjust the banks, or must cross a wetland designated area. This can be local conservatory requirements, the USACE, or other federal permitting to work around.
To demo the existing bridge and install a new bridge for this project in Illinois required US Army Corp of Engineers permits that would have taken 3+ months to secure. It also would have added significant time and cost to the site owner who would have lost access to rear manufacturing facilities during construction.
A Mustang hybrid bridge provided the ideal solution:
- The 14’ x 40’ bridge was customized to fit inside the existing, under-rated bridge – eliminating the need for permits.
- Due to overhead wires, surrounding building proximity and jobsite access, Mustang shipped the bridge in on a winch truck. Our bridge experts were onsite to advise the unload and install process.
- Concrete over rebar was used for the bridge footers, concrete/asphalt ramps to be poured up to bridge deck height. Our bridges integrate with common road materials for a seamless install and finished roadway.
The end result is a permanent, 94-ton loaded rated bridge – needing no permits – that involved minimal adjustments to current site conditions, including buried gas lines and water access points.
And it was installed in less than a day!
