Major Renovation of a Fish Hatchery in South Texas
The Mustang Extreme South Texas crews are nearing 50% completion of an intricate project to reline 53 fish hatchery ponds along the San Marcos River. The state-of-the-art facility specializes in rearing fingerling sportfish for stocking more than 300 Texas reservoirs.
We are very honored to have been selected for this project, which includes removing 2 layers of liner, fixing erosion on the slopes and installing an underdrain system that will help protect the fish during harvesting as pond levels are lowered. The project also requires detailed work around the “kettles” using stainless batten bar to secure the liner to the concrete structures.
Each phase of the project requires a lot of coordination with the Hatchery to ensure the health and safety of the Fish. Fish and water must be moved from ponds needing to be relined, then returned once the new liner has been installed and the pond is put back into service. Full QAQC has been very important and is being overseen by 2 Mustang Extreme specialists and 2 engineers from Texas Parks and Wildlife.
