Composite Mat Road Replaces Decaying Wood Mats at Data Center Site Build in Northern VA
Work at a data center construction site in Northern Virginia was hampered by decaying wood mats needing replacement. Mustang mobilized 2000 LF of composite mats in phases, as the customer reached new sections needing access roads. It was a busy jobsite with 60-70 personnel plus heavy equipment (off-road dump haul trucks, foundation drill rigs, up to an 870 excavator).
Our mats provided access to low-lying floodplain areas for manhole installation and HDD (Horizontal Drill) pipe install. The energy utility had traditional wood 3-ply mats previously onsite – at a 30% disposal rate. We arrived on site to dumpsters full of broken mats.
Mustang’s composite mats contour to the ground terrain while delivering a strong interlocking road that allowed 40+ safe haul truck passes per day.
Our customer’s PM team was impressed with the strength of this interlocking mat system. And, relieved to not deal with the costs and headache of broken mat disposal.
